Celebratory Weekend

Sans the alcohol, Brian’s birthday activities that kicked off Friday night resembled more of a 9 year old’s party then an adult’s. I just couldnt resist buying the pop snapper things when I saw them at the party store. Between that, sucking helium from the balloons and making Finley wear a party hat…it was hours of fun filled entertainment.

And then there was the ice cream cake that I made.  It was honestly one of the easiest desserts I’ve ever concocted.  I will not reveal my secrets unless asked, but yes that’s a delicious candy bar (Twix - Brian’s fav) topping.

We had a much more sophisticated celebration Saturday night with dinner at a cozy, delicious restaurant in Woodside. I would definitely go there again and get the exact same thing. Yum.  We ended the night with a few cocktails and some live music.

I also did some more baking this weekend as a thank you for a friend. Choco cupcake with choco icing.  Okay, now I’m hungry.

Happy Birthday Brian!

Today is my favorite guy’s birthday and since he is always writing things for me, I thought I’d celebrate by doing something that I havent done since elementary school…write an acrostic poem.

Balderdash champion

Really loves watching documentaries

Is very smart, witty and wise

Always gets my bad jokes

Not so good at remembering details (that’s why he has me around)

Hope that you have a wonderful day!

Type A

So I will admit that sometimes when I’m obsessing over if we should have a trolley or a limo to transport the wedding party, or what stock I should use for the invites, or one of what feels like thousands of wedding planning decisions….I stop and think….I’m 9 months out, am I crazy? But then I meet someone like the girl at the salon tonight who’s been engaged exactly ONE month and over a year from her wedding date and has checked off more line items on her Knot to-do list then me. And then I think…I’m not quite as crazy as I thought I was.

Btw, I told my hairdresser this evening to make me look like Heidi Montag, sans 3 inches that I’m still trying to grow out. When I walked in the door this evening Brian randomly said, “you look like that girl from The Hills.” I love you Brian…and I really love you hairdresser Jeanette. Now if only I can figure out how to make it look like this tomorrow.

Believe it or not, yesterday was our one year engagement anniversary! I was a bit confused to how we could get engaged on a Saturday and celebrate our one year anniversary on a Monday…that dang leap year gets me every time. Its just amazing how time flies. So much has changed over the last year. When we got engaged here, I would have never imagined a year later we would be living here! We’re planning to celebrate this weekend along with B’s birthday over a nice, romantic dinner…I’m so excited. I know the next 9 months until the wedding are going to fly by as well. As Brian put it, 1 year down…80 more to go!

I must be a Robot

Why is it that I can NEVER get these things right on the first try? Honestly….I’m a visual person, I graduated college with a high GPA, I can pass other menial tests and for some reason I cant ever seem to get it right. To top it all off, I’m convinced that whoever the nerd is in his basement creating these things is not only making them increasingly more difficult, but is also enjoying wasting my time as I repeatedly have to try and decode this cryptic mess.  Luckily, I have a tech savvy fiance who could explain to me the purpose of these torture tests. They’re called captcha, huh?  Its all coming back to me from my college CIS 100 class….they actually do have a purpose other then pure annoyance….to make sure I’m not a robot. Thanks for the refresher B, but I still hate you CRAPtcha and you’ve officially found a place on my shit list.

Summer might be over, but I’m still wearing white

We brought summer to a close with an eventful and relaxing weekend. We finally made it Friday night to the summer concert series in the park a couple blocks from our house. It was the last concert of the summer and although I didnt attend the others, I’m pretty sure it was the best. Oldies cover band, warm summer night, a nice bottle of red and delicious apps = perfect.

On Sunday we hosted a nice little BBQ. Thanks to the Barefoot Contessa the food was delicious (I heart Aunt Ina, well she’s not actually my Aunt, but I like to think that she is…my Aunt did give me one of her cookbooks…does that count?) Brian did a fantastic job on the barbie, his grilled peaches with vanilla ice cream recipe straight from GQ were a hit! We started the night with a game of croquet and ended with a crazy game of Outburst circa 1990. So fun.

We woke up Monday morning to find Finley with a large cyst about the size of two golf balls on the side of her face. The poor girl has the worst luck. I wasnt sure if was a swollen gland or something else. Because of the holiday I couldnt make another trip to the vet until Tuesday morning. We were there about an hour and a half and after shaving her face and taking a sample, they still couldnt figure out exactly what it was. They gave her two meds and told me that we had to come back if it doesnt go away. Its slowly getting better, but I havent quit worrying. The Finster hasnt skipped a beat and is still her happy-go-lucky self regardless of her latest ailments.
