Friends, Festival, Fun

Oh we rocked it this past weekend at the Outside Lands Music Festival.  Having Oh Beehive here for 3 days just flew by.  It was so great to have an old friend in my new space.  She arrived Thursday late afternoon and we kicked the weekend off with some wine and my famous taco bar. The sangria I made was a bit of a bust (note to self for future concoctions: sangria must sit for at least 2 hrs. or it tastes like you’re drinking straight from the rum bottle).  Friday was filled with sightseeing in the city and gearing up for the concert that night.  Our encounter with a crazy fellow concert goer in the hotel was only a glimpse into what was to come. After trying to chase down several cabs and jam packed buses, we finally made it to the festival a little before Beck was supposed to be on stage. I can honestly say I’ve never been somewhere with so many people – 6 stages, 60,000 people. It was chaotic and mellow at the same time and the people watching was fabulous.

Radiohead played for 2 hours of non-stop hits with an incredible trance inducing light show. Unforgettable.  We ended the night with a crowded bus to an unknown location, greasy pizza and a delightful conversation with two fellow concert goers that I will forever refer to as Bret and Jemaine (please pronouce in a New Zealand accent). Oh Beehive’s bro headed out early Saturday morning and we spent the rest of our morning enjoying more touristy activities. We headed back to my house Saturday for dinner and drinks that night with Dan and Brian.  It was so nice to share great food, drink and old stories with two of Brian and my best friends. Lots of laughs.  I hated to see Oh Beehive leave so soon. We miss her already. I think she just might be a Cali girl at heart.

Sweet Sophia

Chris and Stephanie let me participate in something amazing last Saturday – their 3D ultrasound. Being able to watch a live web feed at the same time they were seeing it thousands of miles away was incredible. I was sworn to secrecy about the baby’s sex until they had an opportunity to share it with the whole family that night. Because I knew it would be too hard to keep a secret – I spoke to no one. Baby Sophia was hamming it up for the camera as she stuck out her tongue, yawned and smiled. I think seeing her so closely made us all even more excited for her arrival. I am so ecstatic for Chris and Steph I can hardly stand it. I’ve already managed to wander into the baby section at Target and Baby Gap and swoon over all the mini outfits. I cant wait to spoil her rotten! Her fifteen minutes of fame (well, it was more like an hour) was unforgettable and I truly appreciate Chris and Steph letting me be a part of it.

Funnies

I stumbled across the cutest invitation website (Poseprints.com) this weekend and had so much fun tinkering with it! You can design and print personalized invitations and stationary – anything from bachelorette parties to baby showers.  I had a great time pulling together pics of myself and my bridesmaids.  I think I did an okay job at getting their likeness pretty close to the real thing.  Hopefully you agree!  I also did this one of Brian and I – too funny!

Cotton is Rotten

I had my shoe and gear clinic last night and now I’m even more excited for our first long run on Saturday. I got fitted for running shoes and absolutely love the ones I ended up with (Asics Gel Nimbus – very Harry Potteresque, which can only be a good sign).  I can honestly say this was the first time I did not chose my shoes based on the way they looked. Huge.  I actually got lucky that the most comfortable pair are pretty cute.  I took them for a nice walk this morning and they are amazing. I’m planning on a run tonight.  I vow to never pick out running shoes on my own again.  The whole process was really interesting - how they use computerized metrics to evaluate your walk and video tape your run. Besides the whole process being really cool, it actually worked.  I also got arch support insoles (Green Superfeet) that are a huge help and picked up a wicking running shirt and socks.  I was told cotton = rotten.  I’m all set to hit the pavement Saturday!

Happy Birthday Joanna!

Today is my favorite paper crafting pal’s birthday and she is turning the very adult sounding age of 27. If I were there, you know I would make you your very own birthday mixed berry pavlova. Have a wonderful day!  Love ya Joj!

ps. Please enjoy an extra piece of naan for me.

Baby Dub

I love the smell of new things…cars, books, puppies, but none of them compare to the smell of a new baby.  Its the scent of Babysoft shampoo, innocence, soft skin, sweet apples and warmth all in one.  Congratulations to the Winstead Family on their newest addition – Ryan James (Baby Winstead).  Who will be a week old today and already has the girls chasing after him.  I’m sure he smells amazing…well at least most of the time.
