Ready for takeoff

She might look happy, but she’s not. Yesterday at the park, Finley managed to hurt her right ankle.  Not sure how it happened, but likely during a mad pursuit to catch a tennis ball.  It was terrible watching her limp around last night and B had to carry her everytime she had to go outside.  We made a vet appointment for her first thing this morning. Because she now weights 60 lbs., Brian had to stay home from work and go with me.  There was no way I could lift her in and out of the car. She actually looked worse leaving the vet then going.  I’ve seen those crazy space cone things on TV dogs, but not in real life.  When they brought her back to us wearing her purple brace with an American flag butterfly attached, I couldn’t stop laughing. I felt horrible for her, but at the same time she looked ridiculous and knew it.   Diagnosis is she’s on some meds for the next few days and has to sport her patriotic accessory until Thursday.  If she is not better by then, we have to get x-rays.  Until then, I went ahead and took the space cone off her head so she no longer looks like a gimp astronaut.

In baking news, here is my latest creation.  Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing and chocolate ganache on top.  I served it with vanilla bean gelato – delicious! !t was a big hit at the dinner party.

I also made some tasty crunchy peanut butter treats for all of Finley’s favorite pals.

Last, but not least a shout out to Stacy Five Cents today as she is turning the big 26! If we werent on the farthest points of the United States from one another right now I would feed you said cack. Love ya lots!

Spaced

I’m pissed because I totally spaced that the first annual Renegade Craft Fair was last weekend in SF. You ask how could I forget such an important event? Who knows. I do know that I’ve already taken some preventive measures for next year and signed myself up on a mailing list. I was looking forward to getting lots of DIY wedding project inspiration. I did come away with one thing…I love this logo they developed for the SF fair. I think it would be so fun to do something like this for Kansas City (I’m thinking illustrated fountains, plaza silhouette) and send them out on postcards for my Save the Dates. Hmmm, now I just need a graphic designer to help…you know who you are if you want to volunteer.

Not so deep thoughts

Barely passing the written CA state driver’s test so now people can finally quit asking me where my birthdate is on my AR license. check.

One more reason why I love living here….California’s Gold – a master interviewer. Classic Huell, always seems to make something out of nothing. You cant pay to see stuff this good. Its worth the time it takes to watch this clip. I heart PBS and yes, this is real.

October 19, 2008

I am so excited because this weekend my neighbor and I registered to do the Nike Women’s 1/2 Marathon in San Francisco- 13 miles! Starting August 2nd, my life is going to be consumed with training and fundraising.  We decided to join Team in Training and I’m a little more nervous about raising the $2500 then the training, but it will all be well worth it!  75% of the money that we raise goes to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for cancer research.  TNT will be a great way for me to get in shape, meet a ton of fun people and contribute to something bigger then myself.  Our kickoff meeting is August 2nd, then my training program will start for the next 11 weeks. It will definitely be a big time commitment, but it will be so worth it. All the coaches that I met Saturday were really inspirational and the team has a lot of fun activites. Best part – when we cross the finish line there are SF Firefighters standing there wearing tuxedos and passing out Tiffany’s necklaces on silver platters as our race medals!

Luck x 2

My horoscope today was: Your luck will be doubled today. You will know what this means when you encounter it.  So I’ve been trying to figure out if I’ve encountered my doubley luck yet. Here are some potentials, but I’m really hoping I’ll be a millionaire by end of day.

1.  I FINALLY got my stimulus check….thanks Uncle Sam for dragging your feet. Unfortunately, no fabulous purchases planned, I’ll be spending most of it on new tires – booo.

2. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl movie is out in theaters.  I’m considering catching a matinee today to escape the heat wave and I’m sure I will be the oldest person there without a 9 year old sidekick.  I’ve been a huge fan of AG forever – Untitled can attest.  I have spent hours reading the books and magazines, developing grand theater productions based on the plots in my garage, changing my dolls’ outfits and brushing their hair with the special wire brush.  When Oh Beehive received Kit in a special delivery package while we lived in the dorms,  I knew we were meant to be best friends.  Although I would have loved the movie to be Samantha: An American Girl, I’m still really excited.  Too bad I cant spend my stimulus on Kit to bring with me to the movies – dang tires.

Kicking off July with a Bang

A festive 4th of July weekend was had by all – fireworks, food, flags, fun.  The only thing missing were extremely tacky holiday t-shirts for $4.99 at Walgreens – think bald eagle, flag blowing in the background. The idea that we should have been sporting them all day long didnt hit Brian until an hour before the fireworks show.  Unfortunately, by that time they wouldnt have received the respect they deserved under our jackets and blankets.  So maybe I’ll hit up Walgreens for a post holiday clearance sale in preparation for next year.  We’ve decided its going to be an annual tradition – the tackier, the better.  Here are some great pics that Brian took of the fireworks over the water.

This was my first Fourth of July where I had to bundle up – jacket, scarf and all.  We’re not in AZ anymore.  The breeze off of the bay was pretty chilly!  Dan’s camo cast = awesome.

Tasty patriotic treats I made for the BBQ at Mike’s.

Long time, no blog

I realize that I havent written a post in a while, but I have been quite a busy gal.  After our mini-vacation down to Tahoe I jetted off to KC to see the fam, catch up with my best girls and surprise Stac! It was a jammed packed weekend and it flew by. So here goes…

We started off the fun filled weekend with a little wedding dress shopping. I had not anticipated finding “the dress” and just thought it would be a good time to do some looking while I was in town.  I was so excited because Em was able to come up and visit from Arkansas.  It was so great to see her! I couldnt believe how long it had been since we had last seen each other, but as always we didnt skip a beat.  So after grabbing lunch we headed out to my first appointment.  Well, lets just say it was not what we were expecting. After the sales girl continued to bring out dresses that were not in line with my tastes and she poked me, we decided it was time to go.  Since we had a little time before my next appt. we grabbed a much needed afternoon drink out on a restaurant patio.

I fell in love with the next dress shop the second we stepped foot in the door – it smelled like delicious cupcakes!  The sales girl was darling and she pegged my tastes immediately.  She brought out several fabulous choices, but when I thought we might be finished, she brought out “the dress.” I knew it was the one because when I put it on I started crying. My mom and the girls (who all have impeccable taste) confirmed that it was perfect. Because it was the day before the big surprise Stac couldnt be there, but she has provided her approval as well.  I am in love. I wanted to take it home and wear it constantly. Sleep in it. The whole experience was surreal. Seeing myself as a bride, wearing the dress, its just so exciting.  I know Brian is going to love it. After the wedding, I am planning on wearing it around the house, ALL the time.  I wish I could share a pic!

The next day was the big surpirse and it couldnt have went over better! I wheeped, Stac wheeped – it was perfect.  It was so nice to finally meet Justin and Baby Dub and spend some time catching up with Lowa, Cassie and The Nickels.  It was a day full of laughs, good food, family, life-long friends and fabulous hair bows. It doesnt get much better than that.

The next day Joj and I headed to Sedville for feasting and more family fun – oh, and a random trip to Wal-Mart in hopes of finding some bargains.

After I returned to Cali, I packed my bags for the OC.  I flew down to stay the weekend with Brian’s mom, as she was getting “her eyes done.” Not like that – she had to get her lasik tweaked.  Unfortuantely, the doctor opted not to do the procedure, which actually turned out to be great because that gave us an extra day to have fun! We had the best time. Delicious food, sleeping in, mornings on the patio, wine, late night martinis, the beach, apps, shopping and so many good chats. It was so nice to spend that time with her. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful future mother-in law.
