We just got back from Tahoe and feel relaxed and refreshed from the mountain air. We had such a great time and Tahoe was absolutely beautiful. We couldnt have asked for better weather. A quick recap of our trip.
Day One: After getting checked into our quaint cabin, we headed out to Fallen Leaf Lake (a small surrounding lake south of Lake Tahoe) and the drive was gorgeous. We found a great 4 mile hike that was a nice way to ease into the trip. With the snow melting off the mountains, there were some beautiful waterfalls. Finley had the time of her life and she continued to amaze us with her endless amounts of energy. On Day 2: we headed west of the lake and spent most of the day on a 10 mile “strenuous” hike. Lets just say B neglected to share that description from the trail book before we set off. It definitely lived up to it, but was well worth the exhaustion Day 3: we slept in and had a delicious brunch at a this great organic cafe before we headed out of town. It was so nice to get away and recharge. The trip definitely wasnt long enough, but the scenery was unforgettable. In the words of Joj’s Dad, “It was God’s country!”
Brian’s fabulous photog skills…
So the only negs of the trip were:
1. The hot tub broke and by the time it was fixed it wasnt hot enough. We tried to still get in it, but the chemicals must have been off because we both went into a crazy itch attack. We did get a nice bottle of champagne out of it and are supposed to get some sort of a refund….lets hope.
2. After two days of drinking and swimming in lake water, Finley has the case of montezuma’s revenge. I feel terrible for her. I will spare you the dirty details, but the situation is not good. So I called the vet and had to feed her a little chicken breast, white rice and Pedialyte for din-din. She seems to be feeling better, but if not we will be off to the vet tomorrow.
Friday the 13th was extra lucky for me - not only was it one year from our wedding, but all my gals got their gifts that I made for them and they said yes! (The only person that hasnt opened theirs is my cousin Chacey because she’s away being a camp counselor for her summer job – I hope to hear from her next week when she gets home) I wanted to do something personal and fun to ask each of my bridesmaids to be in the wedding and when I came across this book, ” You Can Wear It Again – A Celebration of Bridesmaids Dresses”. I knew it was perfect. The book is full of funny, terrible bridesmaid dresses from years past. To make them extra special, I put together a photo collage (see each below) that I inserted in the book and wrote a note inside. Going through all the pics brought back so many great memories – and made me realize how dorky we were and maybe still are! I’m truly lucky to have such great friends and I dont know what I would do without them. I’m so excited that they will all be standing next to me on the most important day of my and Brian’s life. Love you girls!
1. Our wedding is one year from TODAY!! That kind of makes me sound a little crazy doesnt it? I dont care, I’m super excited.
2 . I cant wait to head up to Tahoe next week. Everyone says its gorgeous and the weather forecast is going to be a perfect mid to upper 70’s. Here’s a pic of our cute cabin in the woods (and yes, thats a hottub on the side -yeah!)
Finley and I threw on some Jack Johnson and decided to head to the beach this afternoon. It was such a gorgeous day. I packed my books, ipod and journal in hopes to enjoy some R&R, but instead wore my arm out throwing the tennis ball – forgot the dang Chuck-it. She loved every minute of it and gets braver everytime we go (I’m not so sure I like that). She exhausted herself with all the excitement, now we both need baths.
Its in my head and I just cant get it out. After you listen to this, I’m guessing you’ll be next.
Other things filling up my brainspace.
1. I would guess Finley tries to lick me about 225 times in a given day. No joke – I think she has OCD. We’re working on it. Maybe I should start carrying around a 9 volt battery and see how she likes to lick that. Just kidding, but its really starting to get on my nerves.
2. Due to a very traumatic living experience in college (reference pic below) I am deathly afraid of mice and I’m currently living on high alert. My neighbor claims to have seen one running on the roof of the cottage and I swore I heard them in the orange tree the other night. Something has to be done. I cant continue to live like this.
3. I hate it when people sharpen crayons. Just get a new box.
4. I am so excited to go to Tahoe next week. B and I got a cabin in the woods. Its going to be fabulous. I already started a food and packing list. I love lists.
5. Why am I a magnet for crazy people?
6. I heart the old lady across the street that sits in her driveway every morning with her stocking cap on and waves at passerbyers.
7. Great quote I heard yesterday – “Experience is what we get when we dont get what we want.” So true.
This weekend it finally started to feel like summer and coming from desert heat, I truly appreciate Northern California weather. Its been a perfect mid 80’s with no humidity and I’m told it will stay this way all summer. And with summer weather, comes summer activities. While B was gone to Portland this weekend I spent some time at the farmer’s market, the beach and laying out in our backyard - very relaxing. We also picked up this great patio set. Its not anything fancy, but it was a good price and it definitely will serve its purpose. Now its time for a BBQ!
I just finished my inspiration board for the wedding that I am going to use to keep me focused during the planning process. There’s just too many options! In the words of a highly trusted reviewer, “its fun, and fresh, and pretty and clean!” Just what I was going for – so exciting!
Last night B and I went to a private screening of the film Assassination of a High School President for his work. Aside from getting stuck sitting in the last row, we had a great time and the movie was pretty good. The best part was – believe it or not – I ACTUALLY WON something! Prior to the movie they passed out ping pong balls (relevant to the plot) with numbers on them for a post flick raffle. Once again my gut never fails me – right before they called my number I knew the prize was mine! I ended up handing my number to B to claim because I didnt want to walk down in front of a crowded theater of FB employees with a “who’s that girl?” look on their faces. We immediately went over and set it up at his office under one condition – that we get to bring it home for our next party. I figured it would get a lot more use at the office then sitting at our house – knowing that I actually won something is cool enough. Beer pong anyone??
I’m pretty much in love. When buying a new 12 pack of colorful Sharpie ultra fines (my favs) at Staples yesterday, there was an offer for a free 4 pack of new Sharpie pens. After 10 minutes of chasing the Assistant Store Manager around trying to find the dang things, I almost said forget it. Not knowing at the time what huge mistake that would have been. Luckily, right before I was about to admit defeat – he found them. When I got home I immediately riped open the pack to try them out and I was so impressed to say the least. Not only do they write like butter, but they dont bleed through paper. They are my new favorite pens. I heart them. Now only if they came in a rainbow of colors…
