The date (which is also my bro’s birthday) has finally been set and we are so excited! Even more excited to have an answer to the typical question of, “when are you guys getting married?” So its done – contracts have been signed, deposits have been sent and I’m jumping up and down just thinking about it! Now that I have the extra time on my hands I feel the need to wrap up as many details as possible. So here is what I know:
Where: The Hobbs Building – Kansas City, MO (to check it out click on the Hobbs Building link)

I realized I didn’t give a post prom update. So here goes. Well, pictures are worth a thousand words, right?
Yes, that’s me, my friend Meredith and MC Hammer. Not sure why he was there…he didn’t perform, but he did do some smooth moves on the dance floor….and was extremely sweaty. Very nice guy. As we were leaving and trying to hail a cab – there walked up MC, I said, “Yo MC who you rid’in wit?” He responded, “I’m just trying to grab a cab.” Hey, it wasn’t an invitation, I was just curious to why he didn’t have people doing that sort of thing for him.

Sushi bar – my fav.

Most of the night was spent….

Some photobooth pics…

I was busy baking this weekend making lots of sweet treats. I finally got a recipe for strawberry icing right (thanks to my Dad) that I’ve tried twice before and couldn’t get it right. I made a quick call to my Dad to explain the sitch and he told me that the recipe must be written wrong and gave me step by step instructions on how to correct it. Well, it turned out perfectly and was absolutely delicious (see below)! Thanks Dad – you saved yet another baking crisis.

This weekend was also my neighbors daughter’s birthday. Here are the vanilla cupcakes with chocolate icing that I made for the party. They were a huge hit – or maybe thats just the mimosas talking!

Last night was my first volunteer event with this great group I recently joined called Hands On Bay Area. Reasons why the group is fantastic – 1. you don’t have to commit to a # of hours a week/month 2. you can sign up for everything online 3. they’re super organized, all I have to do is show up and they put me to work. When I came across the children’s literacy event with crafts, snacks and story time – I knew it was right up my alley. When I arrived last night at the library I had little information to where the event was (maybe not as organized as I thought), I immediately made my way over to the children’s section. There were tons of kids running around with pirates outfits on so I knew I was in the right place. I walked up to this woman who appeared to be in charge and told her I was there to volunteer. Without hesitation, she immediately put me in charge of the table making pirate’s journals (see above). So much fun. I quickly remembered how much I enjoy working with kids, well aside from their runny noses. After two hours, I was a expert at drawing skull and cross bones and could hole punch in my sleep. As I was about to leave, the project manager from the library came up to thank me for all my help and then asked how I knew to come volunteer. I then explained to her about Hands on the Bay. She looked at me puzzled and said, “I think you’re supposed to be upstairs, we were short on volunteers, so we just snatched you up!” What?? She then shuffled me to a meeting room filled with kids and families enjoying another fun-filled activity. Once again, I quickly got to work helping decorate sun cookies (the theme was desert this time). After another hour of sugar crazed kiddos, sticky fingers and lots of laughs I realized this was one of the funnest things I have done in a while. Even though I was in the wrong place for most of the night, I met some great people and we were all there for the same reason – just to help out. Now that I know where to go, I’ll be volunteering at Project Read next month too. In the meantime, I’m planning on finding some other events that I can put my craftiness to good use!
On a side note, its freakin hot today! Hooray it finally feels like summer!

After much review my Dad helped me pick these Chocolate Crackle Cookies from my new Martha cookie book to bake while I was home. They were a huge hit, which says a lot coming from a family of bakers with critical palettes (my uncle ate three in a row). They were the perfect combination of a crunchy shell and a soft inside….yum! MS does such a great job of providing recipes that ensure the end result looks exactly like the picture in the book. Love her. So now I’ve proven to the fam that I also have the baking gene and they have been very encouraging of my dream to open a little bake shop someday.

As a society I think we are bombarded with too many choices. Maybe I’m feeling a little whelmed as I begin to shuffle through a 7 inch stack of wedding magazines (my mom and I went a little crazy last night at Wal-Mart) and attempt to make a single decision about one of many wedding details. But I also couldn’t pick which of 31 flavors of ice cream I wanted at Baskin-Robbins today. I realized its not my indecisiveness that’s the issue….its the ridiculous amount of choices we as Americans are given. Unfortunately, when we aren’t given a zillion options, we then accuse the restaurant, store, etc. that there’s not enough. To me, its too much. Don’t get me wrong, I love having the right to choose, but can there just be 5 options of scented candles instead of 25?
Wish me luck as I attempt to select ONE cookie recipe to bake tonight out of hundreds from Martha’s newest cookbook (which by the way is fabulous – includes mouth watering photography).
